DIGICEL CO-SPONSORS KIM COLLINS INVITATIONAL MEET
April 12th 2011 - DIGICEL CO-SPONSORS KIM COLLINS INVITATIONAL MEETAs a major contributor to the development of sports in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Digicel was happy to be a co-sponsor of the recently held Kim Collins Invitational Track Meet. The Digicel- endorsed event took place on Saturday 9th April, 2011 at the Silver Jubilee stadium, Bird Rock after three days of training over 100 youngsters in a Track & Field Camp, hosted by Kim Collins himself.
During the opening ceremony, Marsha Lindo, Digicel St. Kitts and Nevis’ Marketing Manager presented all eleven (11) visiting athletes from the USA including Justin Gatlin and Jamaica’s Delloreen Ennis-London with plaques in the shape of the island of St. Kitts, to express gratitude for their appearance. In handing over the plaques, Lindo said “Digicel is happy to be a part of this venture by world-renowned athlete, Kim Collins as he earnestly continues to develop the talents of our upcoming young athletes.”
The Digicel crew was on hand to distribute merchandise including hats, stadium horns, thunder sticks and glow sticks to everyone in attendance. An entertaining part of the evening’s proceedings was Digicel’s “Run for Cash”. Randomly selected persons in the crowd participated in 60-meter dash races for their chance to win a Digicel camera phone and cash.
Collins, the 2003 Track & Field World Champion, was highly commended by Digicel for putting together the training camp and the Invitational Meet on the weekend. Digicel’s Country Manager Sean Latty visited the camp on Friday and presented Collins with a sponsorship cheque of $3,000 and a new Blackberry handset. The Bigger, Better Network was pleased to be a part of this track and field experience in the twin island federation.
