FOUR ASPIRING YOUNG FOOTBALLERS FROM ST. KITTS & NEVIS CHOSEN FOR THE DIGICEL ACADEMY
Tuesday, October 4th 2011 – Basseterre, St. Kitts: After two intense weeks of pre-clinic football training and three days of Clinics, Digicel Kick Start Clinics Head Coach and England and Liverpool football legend, John Barnes, yesterday officially announced the four aspiring young footballers who have secured a place in the Digicel Academy following third staging of the Digicel Kick Start Clinic in St. Kitts.
The four under 16 footballers selected from the thirty-five who underwent training are Vinceroy Nelson, Wazim Howe, Evanceroy Barnes and Hassani Flemming. These four aspiring footballers will be attending the Digicel Kickstart Academy from November 1st – 7th.
While at the Digicel Academy, these four Kittitian footballers will meet and train with other selected under 16 footballers from other participating countries. During their week long training at the elite academy, they will develop their skills and technical ability as well as learn valuable life skills such as personal awareness and self-esteem. Under the leadership of top Barclays Premier League coaches from the Sunderland Academy, with assistance of John Barnes, the boys will receive expert football training.
The last day of clinic activity was witnessed by a supportive crowd of parents, high-school children and football enthusiasts. During the presentation of certificates to the participants Digicel Kick Start Clinics Head Coach, John Barnes, congratulated all of the boys who trained over the past three days and made special mention of the four boys selected to the DKS Academy. Barnes was highly pleased with the level of football in St. Kitts and said: “The young footballers of St. Kitts and Nevis continue to impress me with their level of skill for the sport. The coaches have shown their commitment to developing these youngsters to one day become world class football players.”
Hassani Flemming, 15 said; “I play football because I love the sport. I hope to one day play on the St. Kitts and Nevis National Football team and look forward to training at the Digicel Kickstart Academy in Trinidad.”
The Digicel Academy will also host a ‘coach the coaches’ seminar in which coaches from across the region will get expert training from Sunderland AFC’s finest teachers.
The Digicel Kick Start Clinics programme officially kicked off on Sunday 18th September in Haiti before travelling on to Panama, New York, St. Kitts & Nevis, Grenada, Suriname, Jamaica and culminating in a week long training session at the Digicel Academy in Trinidad from Tuesday November 1st to Monday November 7th.
