DIGICEL COMMITS TO CRIME-PREVENTION INITIATIVE
Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 2, 2006) -- Digicel, the fastest growing mobile telecommunications provider in the Caribbean, today announced the extension of its sponsorship initiatives to assisting community crime-prevention in Shadwell Estate.
The telecommunications company is working with Woman Police Constable Rosemary Roberts and Defence Force officer Wingrove Lake in their collaboration to keep away potential criminals from the Shadwell area.
The initiative is a mixed patrol group, involving members of the law enforcement agencies and Shadwell residents.
The purpose of the group is as a crime deterrent in Shadwell. A lot of communities are very crime-infested. We're somewhat secluded up here, so putting something like this in place will help us to be our neighbour's eyes and to keep away criminals, WPC Roberts said.
Marketing Manager Leigh Lambert was on hand to present the sponsorship to the Shadwell Estate Community Patrol Group. Communication keeps communities together. At Digicel we are proud to support the initiative of WPC Roberts and Defence Force Officer Wingrove Lake through the donation of four Digicel mobile phones, t-shirts for the patrol members to wear, and $1000 cash towards the purchase of necessary equipment. We applaud the work of the Shadwell Estate patrol in keeping the streets crime free.
Over three hundred persons residing in the Shadwell area will benefit from the Shadwell Estate Community Patrol Group.
The main benefits of the patrol will be helping to keep children off the streets late at night and deterring criminal elements from the secluded area.
